A little over 46 years ago, God sent his "Stork" to deliver the cutest little baby
boy to Sharon Strong! That little boy had the brightest eyes, the cutest smile, and
the absolutely cutest little button nose! She named him Brian Anthony Strong.
Brian was the most articulate little boy anyone had ever spoken with and was
smart as well. He attended Mary Harmon Weeks Elementary School and Dr.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School. He developed an interest in
drafting/engineering so Sharon enrolled him in Van Horn High School, which at
the time, served as an Engineering magnet school. He also displayed his athletic
abilities on the gridiron where he played football under Coach Price. Brian wasn't
very tall or very large but had the heart of a giant! He used his big heart to go up
against much larger players and never backed down. He graduated from Van
Horn High School with the Class of 1997. Brian had many interests that included
working with his hands. He liked drafting but not Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD);
he wanted to do it by hand. He also developed a love of cars! That interest is still
evident today.
Brian was a "Community Baby" and during the summer months, he would go to
work with his Grandmother, Corinne Strong, at Southwest High School where the
staff "adopted" him. Mrs. Owens, Mrs. Stevenson, Mrs. Gordon, and others
mothered him as though he was theirs. His Aunt Sandy shared her love of football
with him and he attended his very first Kansas City Chiefs football game at the
age of 3 and for as long as she was a Season Ticket holder. The games were
different then-not as exciting and not as many wins or championships as we
experience now.
Brian worked as Concierge for One Park Place and also worked Security for
companies in the Kansas City area. Brian passed away peacefully at Research
Medical Center due to complications from Type I Diabetes on August 21, 2025.
Brian was preceded in death by his father, Willie Hicks; his uncles: Kevin C.
Strong, Sr., and Steven A. Strong, Sr.; and his maternal grandparents, Corinne
(Vann) & Willie Strong.
Precious memories are held by his mother, Sharon Strong; his aunt, Saundra
Strong; his oldest son, Tyler A. Strong, his oldest daughter, Brittney T.M. Strong
(Los Angeles, CA); his twins, Brianna & Brice Strong, and his grandsons, Kingston
Strong and Kross Strong. He also leaves special cousins/friends, Darelle
Grady-Strong, Arron Fowlkes, Richard Lee, and other loving cousins and friends.
Funeral services Saturday, September 6, at 11:00am at The Mount Christian Worship Center. Interment Brooking Cemetery. Visitation 10:00am-11:00am at the church. Arrangements entrusted to Lawrence A. Jones & Sons. Condolences may be shared on our website. |
