Bio     Ms. Melonie Gilmore Kansas City, Missouri May 13, 1971 - August 24, 2021 Melonie “Mel” Gilmore (50) was born May 13, 1971, in Kansas City, Missouri to the union of Jefro Gilmore and Ella Mae Gilmore. Her mother preceded her in death in 2003 and her father in 2016. She received Christ at an early age as a member of the Immaculate Temple of God Nondenominational Church under the leadership of Bishop Judy Warren. She was a member of the House of Refuge Family Worship Center. She was formally educated in Catholic Schools attending St. Martin de Porres Grade School, Bishop Hogan High School, and graduated from Van Horn High School in 1989.  She went on to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Langston University in 1994.  To further her education & career Melonie pursued and received a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Missouri Kansas City in 2003. Melonie cared deeply for people and used her life and career to improve the lives of others. This compassion called her to work in the field of social work and mental health for both the State of Missouri and Truman Medical Centers. Melonie joined ReDiscover Mental Health in 2014 where she served as a Team Leader, providing supervisory leadership and support to caseworkers. She was a member of The National Association of Social Workers (NASW), the largest membership organization of professional social workers in the world. Her service to others extended beyond her career.  Melonie was initiated into the Mu Omega Chapter of  Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated where she lived out the organization’s principles of  Sisterhood, Scholarship, and Service to All Humankind. Melonie served on a number of committees within the chapter including the Sisterhood Committee.  In addition, she also volunteered in her church community and as a chaperone and Alumni Board member of the Kansas City Marching Cobras, an organization that she also participated in during her youth. Melonie was best known for her sweet smile and her natural ability to brighten your day. She was an avid Chiefs fan who loved cheering her team on with family and friends. Melonie departed this life in Lee’s Summit, Missouri at St. Lukes East Hospital on August 24, 2021. She was preceded in death by both of her parents and her siblings Ruby Johnson (2019) Thomas Gilmore (2017) Volean Gilmore (2008) and Shirley Stephenson (2005). She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Brianna Agee (Marc) twelve brothers and sisters; Nettye Voker,(Bert) of Phoenix, Arizona, Theodore Allen, Jeff Gilmore (Thomisa), Bruce Gilmore, Sr. (Dorothy), David Smith, of Atlanta, Georgia, Donald Gilmore, Sr. (Drina), Ronald Gilmore, Brian Jones, Lois Smith of Atlanta, Georgia, Tammy Dozier of Arlington, Texas, Darlene Davis, and Christopher Gilmore, thirty nieces & nephews, and a host of other family members and friends. One of Melonie’s favorite scriptures was  (2 Cor.12:9)  "My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.”  The power of Christ was surely evident in the life Melonie lived and those that she touched. She will be greatly missed. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2021, 11:00am at Fellowship Right MBC. Interment XII Gates Memorial Gardens. AKA Ceremonial 10:15am, Family hour will be from 10am-11am at the church. Service conducted by Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel. Condolences may be shared on our website. I am currently employed at Truman Medical Center as Mental Health Family Advocate for the Healthy Start Program. I am currently under supervision for licensure as a clinical social worker. I have a 12 year old daughter named Bri'Anna. I attended undergrad school at Langston University in Langston,Oklahoma. I have a masters in social work from University of Missouri Kansas City. I am an active member at City of Truth Church, Pastor Armour Stephenson III and first lady Jessica Stephenson. I serve as singles leader, I am a member of the praise and worship team, altar worker and Spofford Group Home ministry. I enjoy worhipping God and being in his presence. other pastimes include shopping and cleaning my house.
