Victor S. Weatherspoon, was the ninth child, born on March 13, 1961, to the union of Eli Weatherspoon and Ruth Rickmon -Weatherspoon. He was born in Kansas City, Mo. and attended Sanford B. Ladd Elementary School, Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School, Central High School, and graduated from Van Horn High School in 1979. In that same year, after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and served at Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas until he received a medical discharge. He later received his Associate of Arts Degree in Music from the Penn Valley Community College and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science from the University of Missouri – Kansas City.
Brother Victor professed a faith in Jesus Christ in his early teens and was baptized at the Emmanuel Baptist Church by the Late Reverend W. H. White.
While serving as a teacher and the church musician, he was called to preach and was licensed by the Late Reverend Gene L. Buie, Pastor of the Covenant Missionary Baptist Church on June 11, 1989. While attending there, he met and married Juanita Kinnard. To that union, one child was born, Stephanie Weatherspoon. He later united with Gethsemane N. T. Baptist Church, where he served faithfully for sixteen years. He played the keyboard for the Male Chorus and during worship service when
needed. He later joined Grace Baptist Church of Greater Kansas City and was a faithful member where he attended Sunday School, Adult Bible Study.
Bro. Victor was a very kind and gentle person. He was known for his wonderful smile, his faithfulness, commitment, and loyalty. He never missed a Sunday morning service or Wednesday Bible Study unless he was ill. He enjoyed visiting with his grandchildren, listening to music and playing music on his keyboard.
Victor passed away on Monday, November 21st at Providence Medical Center at the age of 61. Preceding in death were his parents, two sisters, Rilla M. Weatherspoon and Gladys C. Weatherspoon - McMurray, and one brother, Earl Wayne Weatherspoon. He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved daughter, Stephanie Salaam (Sulaiman), his granddaughter, Sanaa Sade and his grandson, Samir Zahi; Two sisters, Uganda Peltier (Cleo), Carlotta Roberts (Mack); Three brothers, William T. Weatherspoon, (All of Kansas City, Mo.), Kenneth H. Weatherspoon (Jackie), of Raytown, Mo., Rev. Ralph Weatherspoon (LaVell) of Houston, Tx.; one Sister-In-Law, Sarah Weatherspoon (of Overland Park, Ks.), and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
