Bio     Name misspelled in yearbook... only had one f. Cheryl McAfee Cheryl McAfee, 58, of Windsor, Missouri, died June 27, 2018 at her home due to metastasized uterine cancer. Cheryl was born October 1, 1959, in Independence, Mo., to Marvin and Ferne McAfee. She graduated from Van Horn High School in Independence in May 1977, and left for active duty in the U.S. Navy in October 1977. On October 18, 1980, in Independence, Mo., she married Darion Zan Tyler and they were the parents of two daughters, Rebecca and Katherine. During her military career, she served as a Radioman, and was stationed in the Philippines, on Guam, and at Mayport, FL. She was honorably discharged in November 1982, and in October 1984 joined the Selected Reserves. She spent over thirteen years in a NATO unit, SACLANT det 118, Kansas City, then transferred into the Individual Ready Reserves from which she retired in August 2004 as a Petty Officer First Class. Cheryl worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Harry S Truman Power Plant in Warsaw for almost twenty-eight years, the last six years as the senior electrician. She retired April 30, 2016 due to her illness. Cheryl was a longtime member of the Alpha Beta Rho chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and the Ray County Genealogical Association. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Lawrence and Mary Shepard, paternal grandparents Lulian and Opal McAfee, her father Marvin McAfee, sister Teresa Butcher, uncle and aunt Tom and Tot McAfee, and cousin Jim McAfee. Survivors include 2 daughters Rebecca Veach (Vaughn) of Sparta, Illinois; and Katherine Tyler (William Ripperger) of Warrensburg, Mo.; a granddaughter, Alexis Tyler; 5 step-grandchildren, Cole Ripperger, Kaden Ripperger, Lydia (Veach) Burkhart, Wyatt Veach, and Emily Veach; a step-great-granddaughter, Ava Burkhart; her mother Ferne Briscoe, Raymore, Mo.; 2 sisters, Marilyn Keck, Oak Grove, Mo., and Kristen Hawley, Harrisonville, Mo.; several nieces and nephews; and cousins Ken McAfee and Leisa McAfee Cook. Memorial services will be held 7:00 p.m. Monday, July 2, 2018, at the Hadley Funeral Home, Windsor. The family will receive friends before the service at the funeral home from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Cheryl wished to be cremated. At a later date, interment will be held in O'Dell Cemetery, Ray County, Mo.
