| Bio | John Michael Sellmeyer, 64, passed away peacefully on Tuesday July 14th, 2020.
John was born on April 8th, 1956 in Kansas City, MO to Frank and Ida Sellmeyer. He graduated from Van Horn High School, class of 1974. After high school he moved to Texas where he had three daughters. He later relocated to Raytown, MO where he raised his girls and worked in construction. He started his own construction company in 2007, with daughter Janet, called Architectural Conceptions where he had a custom cabinetry shop in Raytown.
John was a self-taught, hardworking and dedicated man who was a true craftsman. He built two of his family’s homes, one in Texas and rebuilt the Raytown home after a house fire. His skills as a mechanic were second to none, he won awards in high school that offered him scholarships to Rolla. He continued that passion throughout life. He was on a race car team and participated in building two race cars from the frame up that he raced at 1-70 speedway with his friends. John’s construction and mechanical skills will be admired for many years to come.
The most amazing skill he had was that of a friend, brother, father and most importantly grandfather. His best memories were of coaching his daughters in soccer, riding atv’s on weekends in Texas with family, going to Stockton lake with his dog/best friend Rocco, and playing many classic rock songs on his guitar, as well as, silly made up songs. His grandchildren were his pride and joy, nothing made him happier than teaching them his knowledge of camping, shooting, archery, riding and repairing dirt bikes, and building fun boxes and wood projects.
John was well liked by everyone he met but will always be remembered for his dependability, integrity, honesty, and being a true family man. He always chose to do things the right way, not the easy way.
John is survived by his daughters, Janet Grego, Jamie McCarty and Jackie Baxter, his seven grandchildren, Madison, Blake, Lauren, Ashlyn, Kenadi, Katelynn and Kelsey, his brother Jerry Sellmeyer and his sister Jean Smith, and three nephews, Levi, Gary, and Jeffery.
