Bio | Melanie Aileen Schleininger was born December 1, 1956, to Thomas A Schleininger and Doris D (Johnson) Schleininger in Kansas City, MO and lived most of her life in the Kansas City and Independence, MO areas. She graduated from Van Horn High School in 1974 and from the University of Central Missouri in 1979 with a BS in nursing. She put that degree to use at Menorah Medical Center and for the next forty-four years she expanded her skills in nursing as an OB Nurse then in the NICU.
Melanie loved her job – it was her calling to care for those “little people” as she referred to them. She sang hymns and played classical music to them when the nursery was quiet. She believed the music helped their little nervous systems to relax and rest.
Melanie is preceded in death by her father and mother; her mother passing only a week prior to her. She is survived by two brothers of the home; Thomas A Schleininger II and Jeffrey W Schleininger; one nephew, Thomas A Schleininger III (wife Victoria (Sulzen) Schleininger); one great-nephew, Thomas A Schleininger IV, two great nieces Arianna K Schleininger and Lilianna T Schleininger and one aunt, many cousins and a host of friends, co-workers and church family.
Melanie served as the Head Nurse in the Family Birthing Center, then as the Director of Nursing of the Women’s Facilities and set up the Birthing Center at Menorah Park which became Menorah Medical Center. Because of her declining health, she stepped down from her leadership position and returned to nursing in the OB unit. With additional training, she progressed to a NICU nurse at Menorah where she worked until her retirement.
Melanie was an active member of the Independence SDA Church, serving in many capacities in leadership and ministry. She will be so missed by everyone who knew and loved her. |
