Bio | hris Lyn Peters Mitchell, 65, of Kansas City, MO, passed away January 4th, 2022 at St. Luke's North Hospital.
Chris was born on April 18th, 1956 in Berlin, Germany on the US Army Base to Al and Janis Peters. She graduated from Van Horn High School in 1974. After attending the University of Missouri, she returned to Independence and worked as a veterinary technician, a computer programmer, a court reporter, and a tax clerk.
She lived on a 17-acre farm, where she kept emus, ostriches, rheas, llamas, horses, guinea fowl, chickens, geese, ducks, peacocks, and goats. She became a Volunteer Wildlife Rehabilitator and was frequently called upon to assist with orphaned or injured animals and release them back to the wild. She also loved traveling and enjoyed a special horseback riding trip with her cousin, Ellen; a Caribbean cruise; and she was able to return to her birthplace and first home in Berlin, which was a long-awaited highlight of her life.
Chris is survived by her daughter Jessica R. Bartels, Blue Springs, MO; her parents, Al & Janis Peters, Independence, MO; her sisters Karen Bromley, Blue Springs, MO, and Carla Johnson and her husband Charles, Ft. Worth, TX; her niece Katie Bromley, Lee's Summit, MO; her nephew Matt Bromley and his wife Mackenzie, Kansas City, MO; her great-niece Maeve, Kansas City, MO; and her dog Jake.
Services will be held on Wednesday, January 12th at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 East 39th Street South, Independence, MO 64055. The Visitation will be at 9:00 am and Service at 10:00 am. The family requests masks be worn. Graveside Service and Burial will be at 11:30 am at Mount Washington Cemetery, 614 South Brookside Avenue, Independence, MO 64053.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Lakeside Nature Center, 4701 E Gregory Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64132.
