Bryan was born on July 5, 1956, in KCMO to Billie (Bryant) and Lloyd D. Carpenter Sr. Bryan was a graduate of Van Horn High School, Class of 1974.
Bryan was a member of the Boy Scout's Mic-o-Say Tribe, he became an Eagle Scout in the fall of 1970, sponsored by Ewing Kauffman. His Mic-O-Say name was "Runner Least Bright Blue Spark". Bryan enjoyed watching all sports; his favorites were the Kansas City Chiefs, the KC Royals and NASCAR Racing. He loved his family and was invested in the lives of his many Nieces and Nephews.
