Bio | A 24-year-old Independence man was killed Friday (May 25, 1979) when the motorcycle he was riding struck the second trailer of a twin semitrailer truck at 42nd and Gardner. The victim was identified as Eddie Slape, 19316 E. 8th Court, Independence. Police said Slape was riding east on Gardner about 3:55 p.m. when Wallen Edgar, the driver of the truck, made a left turn from the westbound lane into the Consolidated Freightways depot at 4207 Gardner. The motorcycle hit the second of the two trailers being pulled by Edgar’s truck, police said, and Slape was thrown from the cycle and run over by the right rear wheels of the trailer. Mr. Slape was born in Jackson County and was a lifelong area resident. He was a signalman for the Missouri Pacific Railroad six years. He was a member of the Gospel Lighthouse Church. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Carol Slape, a son, Eddie Gene Slape II, all of the home; his mother, Mrs. Katherine Slape, 217 N. Evanston, Independence; two brothers, Thomas Slape, 227 N. Evanston, Independence and Larry Dean Slape, Springdale, Ark.; two sisters, Mrs. Linda Goss, Breckenridge, MO and Miss Teresa Mae Slape, 217 N. Evanston, Independence; his maternal grandmother, Mrs., Martha Burton, 9700 E. Garrett, Independence and his paternal grandfather, William T. Slape, Springdale. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Sheil Colonial Chapel; burial in Mount Washington Cemetery. Friends may call after 6 p.m. Monday at the chapel. Published in KC Star May 27, 1979 |
