Bio | From Tracey’s sister Gail Metcalf Schartel. TRACEY L. METCALF Tracey Luan Metcalf passed into the next life on December 6, 2021. She was born to Clarence A. and Rosa Joyce (Kincaid) Metcalf on September 8, 1955, in Lamar, MO. From the moment she was born she was a live-wire, funny, sassy, fun-loving and adventurous. Tracey loved animals and people, frequently preferring the former. Her personality was infectious. She held the room’s attention always, with her observations about life and people. Her opinions were strong and always a bit to the left of center. Tracey graduated from Van Horn High School in 1973 and earned an Associate of Arts degree from Maple Woods Community College. She worked for the Military Vehicle Preservation Association (MVPA) for 25 years before retiring in 2020. In 2007, she was honored by the Military Vehicle Collectors Club with The Oregon Award for Excellence. She enjoyed traveling throughout the country for the annual conventions of the organization and interacting with the many members and sponsors. Tracey was married and divorced twice. She had just celebrated being with her boyfriend, Joe Weir, for thirteen years in October. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, staying in touch with friends, golfing, and being mom to her fur babies: Sparkle, Ozzie, Mandy and Meatball. She loved spending time with her friends, a close-knit group who met when they were 10 and remain close to this day. Other close friends were those she golfed with and colleagues from MVPA. In the 1970s, Tracey started traveling to Hickory County and Lake Pomme de Terre. She fell in love with the area and pledged that once she retired, she would sell everything and retire there. True to her word, she sold her Independence home in 2020 and settled in Pittsburg, MO on a farm shared with her boyfriend. The large garden and the wildlife gave her great joy. She made trips to the city to golf and keep appointments weekly but made it clear that she preferred life on the farm. In addition to her boyfriend, Joe Weir, Tracey leaves her sister Gail Metcalf Schartel, a niece Stephanie G. Schartel Dunn and husband Brian, a nephew, Peter Ross Schartel, two grand nieces Claire and Grace Dunn, an uncle, Clayton (Queta) Alumbaugh and cousins from both sides of the family. She was loved by all and will be missed by family and friends. Per her wishes, she is being cremated. A celebration of life will be held January 8, 2022 at the Moose Lodge 2414 located at 2537 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64129 beginning at 1 p.m.. Rather than flowers, please consider donations to the Great Plains Association for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals or Wayside Waifs, two organizations Tracey supported throughout her lifetime.
I am divorced twice, have a house in Independence and at Lake Pomme de Terre, 2 dogs and a cat. Single (and will likely stay that way) but in a very happy relationship with another Van Horn alumni. |
