| Bio | Gary Wayne McDowell, 56, Independence, Mo., passed away at home June 25, 2011. Visitation will be held 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday, June 30, at Heartland Cremation & Burial Society, Raytown, Mo. Funeral services will follow at 6 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association . A native of Independence, he was a member of Mt. Washington United Methodist Church, graduated from Van Horn High School in 1973 and the Electronics Institute in 1984. Gary worked at Armco for 10 years and with SW Bell/AT&T for 26 years where he was a member of the CWA local union. Gary was known for his tough guy exterior, and for his warm and tender heart of gold. He was always willing to lend a hand to family and friends. Gary will be remembered for his love of family, friends, neighbors, hunting, fishing, grilling and hanging out at Truman Lake. He is preceded in death by father, Stephen Edgar McDowell. Gary is survived by loving wife and soul mate, June Napier McDowell; best buddy and son, Trevor; son, Terry Pointer; daughter, Jennie Braden; mother, Elsie McDowell; sister, Beverly Forlow; brother and sister-in-law, Stephen Alan and Mary Anne McDowell; seven grandchildren, and many other devoted friends and family.
