Bio     Richard Donald “Duke” Hon, Jr., 66, of Lathrop, MO passed away September 15, 2021. He was born on May 9, 1955, to Richard Donald Hon, Sr. and Gladys Faye (Shankles) Hon in Clinton, MO. Richard grew up in Kansas City and graduated from Van Horn High School. On May 2, 1975, he was united in marriage to Diane Renee Laughlin. After their marriage they lived in Kansas City had their three children Lori, Ben and Tim. In 1989 they moved to Smithville, MO and in 2000 they moved to Lathrop, MO. Richard was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, a Cursillista and a member of the Knights of Columbus Very Rev Denis Keily Council 9401- Plattsburg, a Fourth Degree Knight. He was a retired teamster from the Foley Company in Kansas City. Richard enjoyed farming, building and was a jack of all trades. He was a devout Catholic and was very passionate with praying our Blessed Mother’s Rosary and the Divine Mercy Chaplet Prayers. Richard was preceded in death by his mother Gladys Hon; grandchildren Ashley, Callie, Cameron and Caleb. He is survived by his wife Diane Hon; children Lori (Mathias) Nelson, Ben (Heather) Hon and Tim Hon; grandchildren Tanner, Kaylee, Dalton, Gunnar, Hunter, Fisher, Piper, Cole, Clayton and Cora; his father Richard “Dickie” Hon, sister Debbie (Bob) Bledsoe and numerous other relatives. Richard reports that his name was misspelled in the yearbook. He only has one 'n' in his last name. Richard married Diane Laughlin almost 35 years ago. We have 3 children & 9 grandchildren. We live on 74 acres in Lathrop MO. Richard is a truck driver for Foley CO. See you at the reunion...

5/1/2024 / 1:00:00 PM - Jerry R. Williams, nationally recognized sculptor, artist and Professor Emeritus, University of Oregon will make a major gift to Van Horn High School. Jerry is a VH Alumni (1960) and will be gifting a Falcon sculpture he created to VH at this time. All school alumni are welcome to attend.
