Bio | David Eugene Carter, of Kansas City, MO took one last ride on Sunday, March 24, 2024, and entered his freedom form. David Eugene, known to his friends as David, and Gene to his family, was born on September 14, 1955, to Ellis and Lovetra Carter in Kansas City, Missouri. David was a gentle, caring soul who affected many around him. He attended Van Horn High School and entered the Coast Guard in 1974 during the Vietnam War. He served in Sandy Hook, New Jersey, and was honorably discharged. He worked as a mechanic in Florida then returned to Kansas City where he completed electronics school. David worked in the water treatment industry for over 30 years, first at the City of Independence, Missouri, then he moved his family to the Springfield, Missouri area and worked at City Utilities and also completed his Associates’ Degree in Environmental Science from Drury University. He retired from City Utilities in 2012 and moved back to Kansas City where he met Cathy Hirner. They were married on October 26, 2013. He continued his career in the water industry with the City of Kansas City, Missouri and the City of Lee’s Summit, Missouri. David eventually retired. David was a proud veteran, loved to work on cars, ride motorcycles, hunt, fish, listen to classic rock, take day trips, play the lottery, ghost hunt and treasure hunt. He dearly treasured the time he spent with his children and grandchildren. He loved being surrounded by his family. David is survived by his wife, Cathy; devoted children, Jason Carter (Nikkole), Vanessa Myers (Matt), Susan Redell (Eric), Jon Pruitt (Kathy) and Brandy Pruitt; his beloved grandchildren, Josie Pruitt, Christian Dominguez, Dawson Blatt, Maddie Carter, Jack Carter, Lorelai Myers, John Myers, Riley Austin, Hazel Redell and Caroline Carter. He leaves behind several siblings, Lloyd Carter (Deborah), Jimmy Carter (Mary), Pat Carter (Karen), Lucretia Myers, Bobby Carter, and Paul Carter (Tifani); many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, brother Wayne, and sons Jeremy and Jarod. A decision to hold a celebration of life gathering will be made at a later date. He will be buried with military honors at the Missouri Veteran’s Cemetery in Higginsville, Missouri. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. |
