Bio | Marcia Gayle Miller of Independence, Mo., passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family on the evening of Sunday, February 17, 2013, following a lengthy battle with cancer. Marcia is survived by her mother Maxine E. Miller of Independence, Mo., and father Roy B. Miller, Jr., of Raytown, Mo. She will be dearly missed by her son Kevin Roth, friend Melvin Roth, sisters Linda Day (husband Chuck), Shirlee Miller, Jeanne Williams (husband Mike) and brother Bernie Miller (wife Angie); nieces and nephews Erin Williams, Brian Day (wife Jaime), Ivan Williams (wife Shanan), Todd Day, Clayton Williams, Amanda Mackey (husband Alex) and Barett Fera (husband Rick). She will also be missed by her great nieces and nephews Isabella, Ashlyn, Reese, Aidan and Nova Williams; Elise, Trent and Emma Mackey; and Jeremiah Day. Her best pals, Labradoodle Millie, and her Amazon parrot, Yeller, will be cared for by family. Marcia was a 1971 graduate of Van Horn High School in Independence, Mo., and soon after graduating began her career in physical therapy, earning a degree from Penn Valley Community College. She was employed by the Visiting Nurse Association of Kansas City where she worked in home health services for 19 years, which allowed her to extend her humanity, her kindness, her zest for life and her inability to prepare baked goods with those in need. She had a passion for water sports and boating, her pets, her patients, her family, live music and did her best to overcome the Miller gene that made dancing to a rhythm seemingly impossible. Her keen imagination and sense of style were celebrated during her 60th birthday, at home, January 16, 2013, with a tie-dye-pizza-party. A visitation will be held from 6-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 21, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO. Service to be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 22, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial to follow at Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Crossroads Hospice. |
