Bio	Barbi Lorene Marquis, of Independence, passed away on March 13, 2024, the day before her 71st birthday. A memorial visitation will take place on Friday, March 22nd from 1-2pm with a service following at 2pm, both at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave.; Independence, MO 64052. Barbi was born on March 14, 1953, in Independence, MO to Robert and Patricia (Payton) McLees. She graduated from Van Horn High School and went on to work in medical billing for area hospitals. In 1993, Barbi experienced a car accident that would change her mobility for the rest of her life. She was able to seek solace with horseback riding at Heartland Therapeutic Riding Academy and rode there for approximately 15 years. She enjoyed collecting Barbie dolls and Beanie Babies, attending Mustang Club events with Keith, and giving care to her many cats through the years. She will be missed greatly by those she touched. Barbi is survived by her beloved husband of 50 years, Keith; her nephew, Jeremiah Duncan; and her current fur babies, Chole and Allen. She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Cheri. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Barbi’s honor to KC Pet Project. I'm at home now. I was hit by a drunk driver (who ran a red light) going home from work in Sept.1993. I use a walker & see double all the time even with glasses, so I don't drive.
