Bio | Mark Alan Helfers, 56, Blue Springs, Mo., passed away Monday, August 23, 2010, surrounded by his family. Mark fought a courageous battle with cancer, but he never gave up his easy minded spirit. He was born Nov. 10, 1953, in Independence, Mo., the son of Alvin and Waunita (Taylor) Helfers. Mark was employed for over 32 years with Missouri Gas Energy. He was a member of Timothy Lutheran Church. Mark enjoyed boating, bicycling, and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his father. Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Pam Helfers; son, Clinton R. Helfers and his wife Haydee; daughter, Carrie R. Helfers; mother, Waunita Helfers; sister, MaryAnn Johnston, and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, at the Timothy Lutheran Ministries South Campus, 301 SW Wyatt Rd, Blue Springs. A Celebration of Mark's Life will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, at Timothy Lutheran Church, 425 NW R.D. Mize Rd., Blue Springs. Burial to follow at Blue Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Crossroads Hospice.
