Bio | Jacquelin Sue "Jackie" Varner-Bradford-Nelson, 71, of Independence, MO, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Palm Sunday March 24, 2024, at The Villages of Jackson Creek.
Born on May 2, 1952, in Princeton, MO, she was the daughter of the late Noel Frederick Varner and his wife Dorothy Jean Murphy-Varner also of The Villages of Jackson Creek.
Jackie graduated from Van Horn High School in 1969 and began her career with Hallmark Cards at the prestigious Crown Center. She also enjoyed a successful career with Marion Laboratories and Sysco Foods. Her last career was with the Department of Homeland Security where she served for many years as a Deputy Immigration Officer, retiring in 2013.
Throughout her life, Jackie was successful in rehabbing homes, had a certain knack for real estate and enjoyed collecting McCoy pottery and Fiesta Ware. She loved her Appaloosa horse, "Cheat" (named for Hank Williams' song, Your Cheating Heart) and she was the gal for you to team up with in any pool tournament you might find.
She is survived by her husband, Randy Nelson of Independence; her sister, Jody Varner-Frederickson, wife of Russell M. Frederickson, Jr., Cape Cod, MA; daughter Jenny Lynn Bradford-Houston; three grandchildren, Dylan Houston of Aurora, CO; Gavin Noel Botts of Independence, MO; and Annalee Botts of Columbia, MO; and two great-grandchildren, A.J. Botts and Aaliyah Botts.
