Bio | Kay Galm. Born: October 20, 1952. Died: June 20, 2011
Kay Frances Galm, daughter of Lavon and Norma Oldaker Johnson, was born on October 20, 1952, in Kansas City, MO. Kay passed away unexpectedly at home early in the morning on June 20, 2011. Kay spent most of her childhood and early adult years in Independence, MO. She graduated from Van Horn High School in 1970 and Penn Valley Community College in 1972. In the fall of 1972 she continued her education at Colorado State University, where she met Dana Galm. Kay graduated from CSU in the fall of 1974 and returned to the Kansas City area. Kay and Dana were married on June 30, 1975, in Independence, MO. During their 35 years of married life, Kay and Dana moved several times until 1997, when they moved to the Galm family farm in the Moneta area. Although Kay worked many jobs during her adult life, her most gratifying were being a loving mom to her three children and being known as Pastor Kay to her small congregation at Pierson Christian Church in Pierson, IA. Her children and God were always most important in her life, and no matter what else was happening, she would always find the time and energy to meet the needs of her children and church. Kay was a member of the First Christian Church in Spencer, IA. Over the years she served as Choir Director, Board Chairperson, and Board Secretary. She was an active member of Christian Women's Fellowship. In 2007 Kay began the process of becoming a Licensed Minister with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and in 2009 was called to be pastor of the church in Pierson. She truly felt God's calling and wanted to turn herself over to Him. Kay's final act of kindness was to give the gift of life through organ and tissue donation. Kay was preceded in death by her parents. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Dana; her daughter, Alicia Galm of Kansas City, MO; two sons, Joe of Ames, IA, and Adam of Cherokee, IA; six sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; many nieces and nephews; and countless other relatives and friends. |
