Karen Kay (Hidy) Smith, 51, Independence, died Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002, at her home.
Mrs. Smith was born June 11, 1951, in Indep-endence, the daughter of Floyd and Monte Mae Hidy, and was a lifelong Independence resident. She was a homemaker and had worked at Home Depot and Lowe's. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Charley and Velma Ginn and Rena Sydow, and her father-in-law, Billy Smith.
Her survivors include her husband, William D. "Billy" Smith, of the home; three daughters, Kimberly Wiley, Tonya Rains and husband, Michael, all of Independence, and Nancy Allgaier and husband, Daniel, Grain Valley; six grandchildren, Natasha Wilson, Jessica and Johnathon Rains, all of Independence, and Danny, Dillon and Madison Allgaier, Grain Valley; her parents, Floyd and Monte Mae Hidy, and a brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Karen Hidy, all of Independence; a sister, Lona Zink and husband, Danny, Suwanne, Ga.; her mother-in-law, Carol Smith, Independence; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Noland Road Chapel, Independence. Burial will be in Blue Springs Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel.
