Bio | Ernest C. "Ernie" Rice, 58, Kansas City, Mo., passed away Oct. 27, 2008. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, at Carson-Speaks Chapel; interment at Mt. Washington Forever Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to the American Heart Assoc. Ernie was born July 24, 1950, in Kansas City. He graduated from Van Horn High School. He was the owner of Ernie's Home Repair since 1992. He also enjoyed sports – playing volleyball at church, coaching baseball in Little League and 3 & 2 League, and watching Pop Warner football games. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #26 of South Kansas City and attended Fairmount Christian Church. Ernie was preceded in death by a sister, Edna Harrington. He is survived by his wife, Rhonda Rice, of the home; son, Gregory W. Rice; daughter, Brittney K. Rice, both of Philadelphia, Pa.; son, Jason K. Starchman, Kansas City; daughter, Aliscia R. Starchman, Independence, Mo.; son, Derek B. Starchman, Raytown, Mo.; brother, James E. Rice III; sister, Elizabeth K. McLeod, both of Independence; sister, Glenny M. Sparks, Lee's Summit, Mo.; brothers, William H.M. Rice, Chicago, Ill., Terry R. Rice, Kansas City; eight grandchildren and friend, Ken Randolph. Arrangements: Carson-Speaks Chapel.
