| Bio | Alan Richard Latta, 68, Independence, passed away January 2, 2019. Funeral Mass will be 11:00am on Monday, January 7 at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Independence, with visitation from 10-11am. Burial will follow at Mt. Washington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association. Alan was born on August 18, 1950 in Independence, Missouri to James Nelson Latta and Emily Marie (Rheaume) Latta. He was a graduate of Van Horn High School and a member of the Naval Air Reserve. Alan was asked to attend the Naval School in Annapolis, but he declined. Alan was an electrical engineer and owned his own business for 25 years designing security systems for prisons and jails. He was an author for and was written up in various Corrections Industry publications, and was a keynote speaker at several conferences. Alan was a devout Catholic and dearly loved his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife of 48 years, Dianna, of the home; children, Scott Christopher Latta (wife, Dr. Amy Latta) of Frisco, TX, and Andrea Rae (Latta) Hardgrave (husband, Lane) of Sachse, TX; grandchildren: Jonathan, Emily, Audrey, and Tyler; siblings: Thomas Latta (wife, Carol), Corder, MO, Gary Latta (wife, Beth), Raytown, MO, Mary Kay Williams (husband, Mike), Blue Springs, MO, David Latta (wife, Cindy), Blue Springs, MO, Jamie Latta, Independence, Patti Latta, Harrisonville, Kristi Latta (husband, Orlando Cachiguango), Lawrence, KS, and Jeremy Latta (wife, Jamie), KCMO; and many nieces and nephews. |
