| Bio | Susan Carol Garrard, age 67 (5/6/49), of Belton, MO passed away Friday, April 21, 2017 in the care of Kansas City Hospice House after a battle with brain cancer. Sue was born May, 1949 in Independence, MO to Gene Ernest and Wilma Jean (Campbell) Swihart. She graduated from Van Horn High School in 1967, and from the University of Central MO in Warrensburg in 1972. Sue started work with the Department of Defense in 1975 and retired in 2011 after 36 years of service. Sue married Karl Garrard October 10, 1981 in Independence, MO. She was a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church where she participated in the Life Circle Women’s Group. She was always volunteering and interested in participating in activities, whether at church, work, or at her daughter’s school. She was very talented with planning and arts & crafts. After retirement, Sue enjoyed traveling and was always planning and thinking about the next trip. Sue was preceded in death by her father, Gene Swihart. She is survived by her mother, Jean (Campbell) Swihart, her husband Karl, daughter Jamie R. Garrard, three sisters Nancy Ewald, Independence MO, Peggy Dodge (Don) Kansas City MO and Jane Rouchka (Jim), Overland Park KS; nephews Nathan and Micah Swihart, Olathe KS and Jason Webb, Independence MO also a great-niece Lauren Webb, Overland KS; three step-grandchildren Alicia, Hannah, Ethan Garrard and one great-grandchild Thor Tucker all of Topeka KS, and a host of other family and friends. Celebration of Life will be May 6 at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 9420 James A Reed Rd. Kansas City MO. Visitation 1-1:30 pm, Service at 1:30pm.
