Surprise, Arizona - James Lee Brummitt (Jim) went to be with the Lord on March 26 at 4:15 am with his loving wife by his side. He passed away peacefully in a hospital in Surprise, Arizona from multiple organ failure.
Jim was born January 18, 1948 in Erie, Kansas and was raised Baptist. Jim was born of deaf parents, making his first language sign language. He enjoyed teaching Sunday School for the deaf and helping to interpret the sermons at Waldo Avenue Baptist Church.
Jim was a graduate of Van Horn High School. He received his teaching and master's degree from the University of Central Missouri while playing football all four years at UCM on scholarship. Jim taught for 10 years in Liberty, Missouri and coached football, wrestling and track. Later he worked at Lake City Army Ammunition Plant as supervisor in the warehouse until 2006 when he retired with 25 years of service.
In his free time, Jim loved fishing and hunting with his sons, collecting antiques, and researching his family genealogy. Jim attended many of his grandkid's sporting events, and wasn't shy to let out a big hollar to cheer them on! Jim spent many years taking family and grandchildren to Lake Paradise for camping and games of mini-golf and trivia. In 2021, Jim and Dee moved to Surprise, Arizona to enjoy the warmer weather and more time with their grandchildren.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents Donald Lee and Ruth Evelyn Brummitt, his step-son James David (Jimmy) and daughter-in-law Pamula Golden.
Jim is survived by his wife of 45 years, Delta Dee (Floyd) Brummitt; his sister, Norma Jean Karn; his son, James Anthony and daughter-in-law Kristi Brummitt; his grandchildren, Sydney and husband Shiloh Smith, Jared and wife Grace Brummitt, Ethan and Colin Brummitt, Jamie Golden and husband John Mehling, Jessica Golden and husband Blake Snyder; great grandchildren James Brummitt, and Jack and Joella Mehling.
We request all of Jim's loved ones and friends to join us in celebrating his beautiful life on Sunday, May 15th from 1-4pm at the Elks Lodge #2509 at 100 NW Brizendine Rd, Blue Springs, Missouri. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the National Kidney Foundation. A private burial will be held at Mount Washington Cemetery. |
