Bio     William “Billy” Brown Salyer, 69, of Odessa, Missouri, passed away February 28, 2017. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 10th in the chapel at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville, MO. A gathering of family and friends will follow the service at the Odessa VFW post.

Billy was born July 16, 1947 in Kansas City, Missouri. He was a 1965 graduate of Van Horn High School. Upon graduation, he served in the US Army during Vietnam, and later became a lifetime member of the Odessa VFW post 5675. Bill was a member of the Asbestos Heat and Frost Insulators Local #27. Later in life, he prided himself on being a gentleman farmer. Bill cherished and loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren with all the love in his heart. He married Joy Halase in 1976 and they later divorced in 1991. He is survived by his loving mother and sister, Dorothy Salyer and Cindy Salyer, both of Independence, MO; 2 daughters: Lori Akin and husband Ron of Kingsville, MO, and Kris Peterson and husband Robert of the Kansas City area; 5 grandchildren: Jessica White and husband Tim of Odessa, Sarah Brown and husband Cody of Odessa, Nicholas Kelly of the Kansas City area, Jeremy Landsberg and wife Rachel of Odessa, and Allyson Burton and husband Tim of the Kansas City area; and 6 great-grandchildren: Konner and Austen White, Tanner and Payton Brown, Benjamin Kelly, and Chloe Burton.

Jerry is a VH Alumni (1960) and will be gifting a Falcon sculpture he created to VH at this time. All school alumni are welcome to attend.
