Bio | It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the passing of Donna Lee Hoyungowa (Angell), age 74, on August 11, 2021 at her home in Independence, MO. Donna was a graduate of Van Horn High School and continued to learn throughout her life, earning her Bachelor's degree from the University of Colorado as an adult student despite being legally blind. She faced the challenge of education in the same way she faced other obstacles in life, head-on and with determination. Not only an A student graduating with honors; she was also recognized repeatedly on the National Dean’s List. Donna was always willing to help anyone in need. She was an avid Chiefs fan, and a tireless and lifelong advocate for Native American rights. She loved cooking for her family and friends, was exceptionally well-read and knowledgeable, and was always up for any trivia challenge. She spoke often with pride of all members of her family, and especially of the military heritage with her father, brother, and all of her sons having served in the Army or Air Force, and a grandson currently serving as a United States Marine. Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Waller James and Madge (Wright) Angell; her husband, Craig “Moses” Hoyungowa; her elder sister Dr. B. Jayanne Angell; and her younger brother Waller James Angell, Jr. |
