Bio | Michael J. Martin, 66, of Lee's Summit, Mo., passed away Saturday, July 9, 2011, at John Knox Village Care Center. Services will be 10 a.m. Monday, July 18, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons, Floral Hills Chapel. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday, at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Michael was born Jan. 31, 1945, in Sedalia, Mo., to Durward R. and Frankie May (Allen) Martin and was raised on the family farm in Fairfield, Mo., until 1959 when the family moved to Independence, Mo. He was a 1963 graduate of Van Horn High School and had worked at the Ford Motor Co. in Claycomo, Mo., for 35 years before retiring. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Sharon K. Martin of the home, a son and his wife, David and Elise Martin of Lee's Summit, a daughter and her husband, Holly and Jamie Slightom of Olathe, Kan., his grandchildren, Matthew Martin, Sarah and Emily Slightom, two brothers, Allen R.
