| Bio | Roger Hammers, 67, died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012. Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2012 at Floral Hills. Roger graduated from Van Horn High School in 1963 and served in the United States Navy from 1965 until he was honorably discharged in 1971. He served on the Independence Fire Department for many years. Upon retirement, he was able to incorporate his passion for helping people into his job working as a drug counselor. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Burt Hammers and Miona L. Cassidy; his brother, Bill Hammers; and his sister, Virginia Hicks. He is survived by his children and their spouses: Kevin and Kim Hammers of Overland Park, KS, and Keri and Nick Weddle of Belton, MO; a sister, Kathryn Gill of Independence, MO; three grandchildren and two nieces; and the many friends who loved him.
