Bio | Evelyn Mae Blair June 12, 1943 - February 26, 2019 Independence, Missouri Evelyn Mae (Weston) Blair of Kansas City, Missouri, age 75 passed away peacefully the 26th day of February, 2019 from an arduous battle with progressive neurovascular disease. Evelyn grew up in Independence, MO where she attended Van Horn High School. She studied Education at Central Methodist College in Fayette, MO where she joined Zeta Psi Lambda sorority and met the love of her life, John “JD” Blair. Her time was spent nurturing a family and putting together an impressive career based on a core belief that “people are not for hurting”. Employment endeavors include: Social Worker serving at risk children and families, Director at Adventure World Preschool, Educator with Parents as First Teachers and the American Heart Association and teacher with the Fort Osage School District where she taught Early Childhood Development. Evelyn was an impressive piano player, creative writer and vocalist. She sang with the Kansas City Chorus of Sweet Adelines and frequently filled the home with piano music both classical and improvised. Everyone who knew her probably has a personalized note/card written thoughtfully just for them decorated with stickers and hand drawn clip art. She believed every interest should be explored, every tragedy should be helped and every living thing should be treated kindly. She is preceded in death by her parents Percy and Helen Weston, husband John Blair, brother Barry Weston and beloved pets including two ducks and two dogs. Survivors include her son Dale Blair, daughter Kari Blair, daughter in law KC Blair, grandchildren Katie, Andrew and John Blair, sister in law Marla Weston, nephew Joel Weston and niece Marlynne Robertson. Special Thanks to Morningside Place Memory Care, Summitview Terrace Assisted Living, Advent Health-Shawnee Mission (Shawnee Mission Medical Center), Dr. Wadood and the many nurses and therapists who contributed to her care. In lieu of a formal service, a Celebration of Life will be held at The Pilgrim Chapel (3801 Gillham Rd Kansas City, MO), a nonprofit organization within the heart of Kansas City fittingly serving urban families and children through creativity, art and positive programming. This tribute will be held on June 12, 2019 beginning at 1:00 pm commemorating Evelyn’s birthday and her favorite season of the year. The family also invites you to pay tribute by continuing Evelyn’s spirit of service through volunteerism and/or making a donation to The American Cancer Society, The Alzheimer’s Association or to a cause that is personally significant. |
