Bio | Sandra “Sandy” Wilson of Rockwall, TX, passed away peacefully in her sleep December 31, 2017, at the age of 75. She was born in Independence, MO, on July 27, 1942, to Robert Eugene and Mildred Lee (Long) Hurst. Sandy graduated from Van Horn High School, the University of Central Missouri (Bachelor’s Degree) and the University of Kansas (Master’s Degree). She taught English at Skyline High School in Dallas, TX, for 20 years before retiring in 2004. Sandy loved to travel and was able to enjoy many trips worldwide with friends and family, including to Greece, France, Switzerland, Austria, New York City and New Orleans. Her passions included reading mystery novels, tracing her family genealogy, watching movies and live theater and listening to her ‘golden oldies’ music. She also loved cats and never got over losing her beloved cat, Max, a Siamese mix she adopted as a kitten. Social media was another big pastime for Sandy. Facebook was her favorite way to keep up with loved ones, especially her five grandkids. She was usually the first ‘Like’ on any new post. Twitter was her way of monitoring national news and updates by her favorite actors and authors. She was a very involved and supportive mother, grandmother and aunt, and will be missed dearly.
Sandy is survived by her son: Jeff Wilson and wife Susie; daughter: Wendy Wilson-Settle and husband Aaron; grandchildren: Hannah, Shane, Zoe, Meghan and Brett; nieces: Dana Rowe, Kim Turner and Sherri Boyd; nephew: Robert Hurst; and great-nephews: Dalton, Dayton and Ethan; along with many relatives and close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister: Nancy K. Turner; brother: Robert Hurst; and cat: Max.
A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, January 6, 2018, at Rest Haven Funeral Home – Rockwall Chapel.
