Bio | Kathryn Hahn Pickering, 76, Independence, died Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Centerpoint, in Independence.
Mrs. Pickering was born January 25, 1942 in Independence, MO and lived an adventurous life around the world. The last two decades she returned home to Independence living in her childhood home.
Throughout her life she worked in service of others. She was a nurse, a homemaker, a politician’s aide, a Girl Scout leader, a volunteer, a coach, an author, a great friend, wonderful mother, and devoted wife.
She was a graduate of Van Horn, Senior High in 1960 and Independence Sanitarium and Hospital School of Nursing in 1963. She was a member of the Kansas City United Church of Christ in Brookside, MO.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Irving Pickering M.D. (Independence, MO) and her parents Leonard and Emily Hahn (Independence, MO).
Her survivors include two sons and a daughter, Geoffrey E. Pickering (Lee’s Summit, MO) and Christian L. Pickering (California, MO) and Mary Jo Rodgers (Smithville, MO); two daughters-in-law, Cecily J. and Barbara S. Pickering; a son-in-law, Dan W. Rodgers; and a sister Mary T. Lewis (Peculiar, MO) and nine grandchildren: Gavin, Audrey, Nathan, Rachel, Carter, Will, Ainsley, Kristen, and Sutton.
