Bio     Virginia L. (Johnson) Hamilton, 74, a lifelong resident of Independence and Blue Springs, MO, passed away peacefully in her home in Blue Springs on January 11, 2016. Virginia was a 1959 graduate of Van Horn High School. She attended CMSU and received her BS in education in 1963. She was a member of Kappa Alpha sorority. She returned to UMKC to receive her Master’s degree in 1978. She was an elementary teacher for more than 26 years. Virginia taught 4th and 5th grade at Alton Elementary. She then moved to Santa Fe Elementary and taught 2nd grade until she retired in 1998. She loved to work in her gardens at her Blue Springs home and was also an active line dancer with her friends from Van Horn. She also enjoyed playing Bunko with her friends. Virginia is survived by her spouse William Hamilton; daughters Melissa Campbell of Blue Springs, MO, Michele Lee and husband Jim of Huntersville, NC; 4 loving grandchildren Jillian and Erin Lee of Huntersville, NC, Jacob and Caleb Campbell of Blue Springs, MO; sister Martha Healy of Belton, MO; and several nieces and nephews. There will be a visitation at 10:00 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 17, 2016 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St, Independence, MO, 64055. The family requests that contributions may be made to one of the following organizations: Visiting Nurses, Crossroads Hospice, Breast Cancer Research or research for Alzheimer’s and Dementia. I taught elementary education in Independence for over 26 years. I taught 4th, 5th, and 2nd grades. The last for 23 years. I retired in 1998. I married Rodger Wright, class of '57 in l962 and we were married for 28 years. We have two daughters, Michele and Melissa, and now have two grandsons and two granddaughters. I am now married to William Hamilton. I love to garden and am a volunteer in my niece's classroom. I have traveled to many places across the US, Europe, Hawaiia, and Puerto Rico. I belong to The Water Garden Society of Greater Kansas City.
