Bio | Frances Chowning - age 84 of Liberty, MO passed away Wednesday morning, April 23, 2025, at Pleasant Valley Manor Care in Liberty. Frances was born on April 17, 1941, the daughter of Clyde and Lula (Stroud) Johnson in Caldwell County, MO. She grew up in Cowgill and was a graduate of Van Horn High School and attended college. She worked for Cargill in North Kansas City for 25 years. She was full of life and always willing to help someone in need. Frances loved to cook, going to garage sales and she especially loved her grandchildren. She was an animal lover and enjoyed riding horses. She also enjoyed trips to the casino. Frances believed in God and was a Christian. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Dee Smith; son, John Chowning; her sister, Joyce Smith; sister-in-law, Linda Johnson and her nephew, Leland Garrett.. She is survived by children, James Chowning of Polo, Rita Sullivan of Magnolia, TX, Ellis Chowning Jr, and Jason Chowning (Felicia) of Lawson, MO; ten grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; brothers, Don Johnson (Joann) of Odessa, MO, and Lyndall Johnson of Cameron, MO; several nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members also survive.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Stith Funeral Home to help with final expenses. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, May 4, 2025, at Cowgill Cemetery, southeast of Cowgill. There is no scheduled visitation.
