Bio | Treva Rae Massey, 81, passed away in Lee's Summit, Missouri on November 5, 2023.
She was born on January 31, 1942, in Sharon, Kansas, and lived most of her life in Independence, Missouri. Treva attended Van Horn High School and Central Bible College. She dedicated her working years to the field of bookkeeping, eventually starting her own business Balanced Ledger Bookkeeping. Outside of her professional life, Treva pursued various interests that brought joy to her heart. She had a deep passion for tracing her family's genealogy, delving into the history that shaped their lives. Her dedication led her to become the past president of the Jackson County Genealogical Society and the founder of the Massey Family Association and Reunions. When she wasn't immersed in genealogy research, Treva found solace in reading. Lost in the pages of a captivating story, she would while away the hours with an open book in hand. Additionally, she delighted in challenging herself with jigsaw puzzles and word games—a testament to her sharp intellect and love for problem-solving. One of Treva's proudest accomplishments came from sharing her passion for family history through writing. Her work was honored by being published in the Library of Congress as "The Massey Family History." She also had a deep commitment to her faith that was a constant source of joy and comfort.
Even more cherished by Treva is the family she established on May 11, 1962, with Robert Lee Massey, her beloved husband of over 50 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Kyle (Tracee) Massey, Karissa (Rob) Alumbaugh, and Kurt Massey. Treva's grandchildren, Jonathan (Tara) Massey, Christopher Massey, Ashley Palen, Evan Alumbaugh, Lucas (Olivia) Alumbaugh, and great-grandson Trevan Massey. Treva was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert Lee Massey, her father Thomas Randall Garrett, mother Velma Eva (Ragan) Garrett, sister Janice Krause, and brother Randall Garrett. She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories for her surviving family and friends.
The services to honor Treva's life will be held at Speaks Suburban Chapel located at 18020 East 39th St S in Independence, MO. The visitation will take place on November 9, 2023, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The funeral service will follow on November 10th at 10:00 AM at the same location. Treva will be laid to rest at Machpelah Cemetery in Lexington, MO following the funeral service. Treva Rae Massey lived a life enriched by deep connections, personal achievements, and unwavering dedication to her loved ones and her faith. She touched the lives of many through her warmth, kindness, and unwavering spirit.
