Bio     Sheila, age 77, of Independence passed peacefully to be with the Lord on June 1, 2018 in Blue Springs. Visitation will be Sunday June 10 from 5-7 pm at Carson – Speaks Chapel, 1501 W Lexington Ave, Independence, MO. Funeral Services will be Monday June 11, 2 pm at Six Mile Baptist Church, 26005 E Blue Mills Rd, Sibley, MO with Darrell Woods officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Washington Cemetery, 614 S Brookside Ave, Independence, MO. Sheila was born in Shaw, Lancashire, England to James and Evelyn Dunkerley on Dec. 3, 1940. In 1948 her family immigrated to Independence where she graduated from Van Horn High School. She worked for TWA for 25 years before retiring in 1991. She was a devout member of Six Mile Baptist Church. She loved feeding and watching the birds in her back yard, gardening, travel and spending time with her family, friends and dog. She also enjoyed watching her KC Royals, KC Chiefs and Mizzou Tigers. She is preceded in death by her parents James and Evelyn Dunkerley, Brother Keith Dunkerley and her beloved husband James Lorance. She is survived by her son Garry Blevins and wife Beth; step-daughters Lisa Lorance and Teresa Miller; Sister Barbara Ingolia, Brother Mel Dunkerley and Five Grandchildren; Erikka Blevins, Cody Blevins, Rik Miller, Nicole Lovely and Vincent LaGamba. 5/1/2024 / 1:00:00 PM - Jerry R. Williams, nationally recognized sculptor, artist and Professor Emeritus, University of Oregon will make a major gift to Van Horn High School. Jerry is a VH Alumni (1960) and will be gifting a Falcon sculpture he created to VH at this time. All school alumni are welcome to attend.
