Bio | John Wesley Steele, 80, of Blue Springs, MO passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family on September 4, 2021. He was born May 26, 1941 in Sedalia, MO to Clarence Joseph and Verna Mutis (Finley) Steele.
John graduated from Van Horn High School, Class of 1959. He had lived in Blue Springs for the past 39 years. He worked for The Uhlmann Company for 43 years where he retired as Director of Marketing and Sales in 2003. He enjoyed auto racing, restoring his ’72 Mustang, woodworking, watching the Kansas City Chiefs and above all, spending time with his family. Those who knew him, and many who didn’t, learned of his playful banter that he maintained to the end. He was a devoted husband and amazing father.
He married Margaret Sue Hayward of Polo, MO on May 18, 1968 in Independence, MO. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Margaret and their children: Gregory Alan Steele and wife Heather, and Ryan Joseph Steele; John’s children: John Wesley Steele Jr, and Michele Ann Clark and husband Perry; a brother, Donald Steele and wife Melinda; eight grandchildren: Drew, Brandon, Trent, Makenna, Amber, Amanda, Joshua, and Trey; four great-grandchildren: Makenna, Christina, Alayna, and Michael. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings: Geneva Fimple, Doris Langton, LeRoy Steele and Juanita Huffman.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate John’s life on Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at the Meyers Funeral Chapel in Blue Springs. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. with the memorial service commencing at 3:00 p.m. Memorial contributions are suggested to IMPACT at the First Baptist Church of Blue Springs.
