| Bio | David Lee Nichol, Sr., 79, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2020. A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 18, from 9-10am, with a memorial service at 10am, both at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St. He will be laid to rest in Mound Grove Cemetery following the service. In his honor, contributions may be made to Lumicare Hospice.
David was born on October 23, 1940, in New Castle, PA, the son of Chester and Mabel Irene (Culver) Nichol. As a teenager, he advanced through the ranks of the Boy Scouts and ultimately earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He played football and saxophone in the marching band at Van Horn High School and graduated in the class of 1958. David then went on to attend CMSU for business and accounting courses and was also a proud “Marching Mule.” He met Betty L. Farmer at Mt. Washington United Methodist Church, and they married on March 16, 1962.
David spent his 43-year professional career as a sales consultant for car dealerships. He worked for Cable Dahmer Chevrolet for 36 of those years. He truly enjoying the opportunity to talk with people and help them purchase their very own vehicle. His passion for American-made cars showed in his two prized possessions: a 1956 and a 1962 Chevy Bel Air Convertible.
There was never a more loyal, faithful hometown sports fan than David – he held season tickets for the KC Chiefs for over 50 years, and stuck out every single game until the very end. He could often be found cooking outside, making a delicious steak dinner or some barbecue for his friends and family. Many fond memories were made down at Stockton Lake, with his pop-up camper, pontoon boat, fishing, and waterskiing. He was a man of faith – in early years, he was a youth leader with his church, but in his adult, he helped their finance department. David’s favorite church event would have to be making the annual apple butter. He would wake early to begin peeling apples and loyally stirred the big pot as they cooked down. Everything David did, he did because he had the chance to make someone smile. His philosophy was that life is meant be a party celebrated with the ones you love.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Betty, of the home; sons, David Nichol, Jr. (wife Kathryn) of Independence, MO and Kevin Nichol (wife Jennefer) of Blue Springs, MO; grandchildren, Elizabeth Everly (husband Brent), Jacob Nichol (wife Kelsey), Zachary Nichol, Ashley Barzee (husband Jared), Tyler Nichol (wife Amanda), and Trent Nichol (wife Kara); great-grandchildren, Wyatt Everly, Charlotte Everly, Ophelia Nichol, Ayden Barzee, Emma Barzee, Jackson Nichol, and Eleanor Nichol; twin sister, Diane Hall; brother, Larry Nichol (wife Cathy); and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Mabel Nichol, and a brother, C.E. Nichol.
