Bio | Sally Jo Cecil, 86, passed away Saturday, July 26, 2025, at her home in Warsaw, Missouri.
Sally was born June 2, 1939 in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Warren Claude and Evelyn Hall (Sims) Whisler. She was raised in Independence, Missouri, and graduated from Van Horn High School.
Sally married Jack D. Cecil on February 8, 1958, in Independence, Missouri. They made their home in Liberty, Missouri, where they raised their three children. They were members of South Liberty Baptist Church and later Pleasant Valley Baptist Church.
Sally was very creative and talented. She loved to paint, sew, knit, cook, and make ceramic pieces. Her home was her canvas. She and Jack restored their historic home in Liberty that was featured several years on a city homes tour.
Sally loved her family and was a great hostess. Countless summer weekends were spent with family and friends grilling out at their swimming pool. Everyone was welcome to stop by.
Sally had a passion for travel and exploring the world. She opened Seaport Travel in Liberty, Missouri, and enjoyed helping others created memorable vacations. She and Jack traveled the world together. Her most notable trips were to Italy, England, and Austria.
Upon retirement, they moved to Mesa, Arizona, to enjoy the weather, friends, and the scenery. Most recently, they have made their home in Warsaw, Missouri, to be closer to their growing family.
Sally is survived by her husband, Jack Cecil of the home; three children: Mark Cecil (Melinda) of Zionsville, IN, Nettie Klestinske (Chuck) of Olathe, KS, and Mike Cecil (Lisa) of Kearney, MO; six grandchildren: Aaron Cecil (Laryssa), Carly Payne (Collan), Katherine Mowery (Cody), Jackson Klestinske, Tucker Cecil, and Laney Cecil; and four great-grandchildren: Graham, Madeline, Brooks, and Sophie. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Freddie L. Whisler.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 1st from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Royer Funeral Home, 101 SE 15th Street, Oak Grove, MO 64075. Graveside services will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
