Bio     LEBANON Norman Rex Benson, 71, died Wednesday, October 6, 2010, in the Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon. He was the husband of J. Elaine Lowderman Benson, to whom he was married 50 years. Born in Independence, Mo., on March 25, 1939, he was the son of the late Tom and Beulah Rex Benson. Norm was a 1957 graduate of Van Horn High School Independence, Mo., and a 1963 graduate from the University of Kansas with a degree in business. He served his country as a cold war veteran in the United States Air Force. After 30 years as a District Mgr. with South Western Bell, Norm became an avid astronomer. His children teased him and asked for individual horoscopes. He was a past president of the Dallas chapter Texas Astronomical Society, and a former member of the Kiwanis Club of Dallas, Texas. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Dr. Steve Benson and wife, Jean (Betty) of Ashland, Mass., and Lt Col Scott Benson and wife, Ranee of Acworth, Ga.; one daughter, Stacy Benson of Palmyra; and five grandchildren, Nikolas, Sophia, Mitchell, Matthew, and Joseph Benson. Norm was preceded in death by a grandson, Gabriel Benson. Memorial services will be held on Monday, October 11, at 12 p.m. at the Kreamer Funeral Home and Crematory, 618 E. Main St., Annville. Inurnment will be held at the convenience of the family. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the funeral home. There will be no viewing.
