Bio     JOHANNA MARY ROSE EPSTEIN Johanna Mary Rose Epstein, beloved wife of Sherwin L. Epstein, passed away peacefully on January 9th, 2017 in Ft Lauderdale, Fl. Johanna, lovingly known as "Jody" was born on November 23, 1938 to Howard and Virginia Rose of Independence, MO. Jody was a member of the first graduating class of Van Horn High School in Independence and took a leadership role in establishing many of the organizations within the school. She was a member of the National Honor Society and was awarded the Sears and Roebuck Scholarship. Upon graduation she attended Kansas City Junior College. She continued to be active in civic organizations including the JayCees. She was a generous donor to many organizations around the community, nation and even internationally by supporting Israel and many academic scholarships, all with a desire for anonymity. With Sherwin by her side, she had the privilege of visiting many countries and experiencing the world. Israel, Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific, Hawaii, Alaska, South America, Europe, and especially all of the Caribbean Islands, her winter favorite. She loved to cruise through the Bahamas with Sherwin, enjoying the fruits of a life well lived. Her parents, her granddaughter Amy Linneman and grandson Joseph Linneman, predecease her. She is survived by her husband, Sherwin L. Epstein of Mound City, KS, her children, Dawn (Terry) Linneman, Denise (Steven) Kaufman, Jeff (Margo) Hurst, Susan (Leane) Peskin, Mark (Heather) Epstein and her thirteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She also leaves behind her two sisters and eight brothers, and delighted in being Aunt Jody to her many nieces and nephews. A celebration of Jody's life will be held February 11th at 2pm at Porter Funeral Home, 8535 Monrovia, Lenexa, KS. The family will receive guests at a reception immediately following the memorial. Donations can be made to Great Plains SCPA, Independence Development, 5428 Antioch Drive, Merriam, KS 66202 to honor Jody's lifelong love of all animals. Jerry is a VH Alumni (1960) and will be gifting a Falcon sculpture he created to VH at this time. All school alumni are welcome to attend.
